What to Expect with Clear Aligners

Clear Aligners Homecare

How often do I need to wear my clear aligners?

Proper tooth movement requires a minimum of 22 hours of wear per day.

How long until I go to the next aligner?

Aligners are to be changed weekly.

How do I know the aligner is fitting properly?

When placing a new aligner, inspect the fit. There should be no visible space between the aligners and the teeth. If a space exists, it is referred to as an “unseat”. If an unseat is observed, use the “chewies” provided 10 minutes per day for 3 days in the area of the unseat to eliminate the visible space. If the space remains after the three days, please contact the office. We may want to appoint you to get a closer look at the unseat.

Can I eat and drink with the aligners in?

When the aligners are in place never eat or drink anything but water.

What should I do with my aligners when I am eating?

When not in the mouth, always keep aligners in the provided case.

What do I do with aligners after I have moved to the next set?

Keep all aligners even the ones already used.

After eating, do I need to brush prior to putting the aligners back in?

Brush your teeth and aligners after every meal to ensure the best fit and proper tooth movement.

How do I clean my aligners?

Clean aligners with cool water and toothbrush/toothpaste.

Are there any additional cleaning recommendations?

Brush with Prevident toothpaste at night prior to going to sleep. Brush for 2 min, spit but do not rinse, place aligners and go to sleep. This process provides extra protection for the teeth.

What should I do if I break or lose an aligner?

If an aligner is lost or broken, please contact the office for instructions. It is possible that you can proceed to the next aligner or a new version of your current aligner may need to be fabricated.
