What is DentalMonitoring and how does it work?

It’s a remote monitoring program. Your child scans their teeth at home each week using an app on your phone, the scan comes to our office, and Dr. Varble reviews it himself. He can see whether teeth are moving the way the plan predicted, whether aligners are seating properly, and whether anything needs attention, without you driving to Creve Coeur or St. Peters to find out.

What do we actually have to do each week?

Not much. The app prompts your child when a scan is due, walks them through the angles one at a time, and tells them if a shot needs redoing. Teenagers tend to figure it out faster than their parents do. Once it’s part of the week it stops being something anyone thinks about.

Does seeing Dr. Varble less often mean less care?

No, and it’s the right question to ask. You’re not trading care for convenience, you’re trading office visits for more frequent checks. On a conventional schedule, progress gets reviewed whenever you come in, which is a matter of weeks apart. With weekly scans, Dr. Varble is looking at it every week. If a tooth isn’t tracking, he sees it within days instead of at the next appointment, and he’ll bring you in early if that’s what the case calls for. On average this cuts in-office visits by about half, though every case is different.

Do we still come into the office?

Yes. Remote monitoring replaces the check-in visits, not the hands-on ones. Wire changes, adjustments, bonding, and deband all still happen in the chair. On average, VO patients finish in 6 fewer office visits, and the ones that remain are the appointments where something is actually getting done.

Does DentalMonitoring work with braces, or only clear aligners?
